Red Bull’s Plan to Give Cycling Wings

Feb 12, 2025 | Sports

Our Take

Cycling is a new chapter in Red Bull’s quest for relevance beyond the “alt-sports” landscape, and if past performance is any indication (just take a look at their recent Formula 1 dominance), we expect to see them topping podiums in the not-too-distant future. Part of their success is due to a future-driven approach and the willingness to invest in and develop young athletes from the ground up. The strategy works, and has put them at the top of their class across a variety of sports. It’s only a matter of time before the Tour de France becomes another feather in the brand’s cap.

Source Summary

Red Bull, with its eyes set on winning the Tour de France, recently invested in Bora-Hansgrohe, a relatively mid-tier German cycling squad. The historically extreme sports-focused brand has hired renowned coach John Wakefield and cyclist-turned-engineer Dan Bigham to give the team an edge. So far there has been some early success, with one of the team’s riders, Primož Roglič, winning the 2024 Vuelta a España, an international cycling race held in Spain. Getting a Tour de France victory will require years of engineering, but Red Bull appears fully committed to the long game.
